Scott family sets free clinic

- STAFF REPORT

The Scott siblings from Bradley Central sports fame in the 1960s and 1970s are reuniting at their high school for a free basketball camp July 18-21 for boys and girls ages 8-15.

They include Alvin Scott, who played eight years with the Phoenix Suns and still lives in Glendale, Ariz., and his older brothers Terry and Levi and sister Gloria. She played for Tennessee when Pat Head (later Summitt) was still a UT-Martin player, while Terry and Alvin were in the notable Cleveland/Chattanooga connection to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. Terry, who followed coach Ken Trickey from Middle Tennessee State to ORU, lives in Muskogee, Okla.; Levi lives in Chattanooga.

Terry has worked John Starks’ free camps and has been involved in basketball coaching for 40 years, “so he will take the lead” for the Scott Family Basketball Camp at Bradley, Alvin said, noting that their 501(c)(3) foundation, Life Education Through Sports, has been in place for years but the free camp is a new offering. Erlanger hospital already has committed to donate, Alvin said, and the Trickey family has sent a check in memory of the late coach.

“Our camp will provide the basic fundamentals of basketball as well as incorporating life skills,” Terry said. “We anticipate doing this every year,” Alvin added.

It will run 9 a.m.-noon that Tuesday through Friday, and as many as 100 can attend. Register through www.LETScamps.com. Call 602-702-9657 with questions.

Terry graduated from Bradley Central in 1966, Levi in 1967, Gloria in 1971 and Alvin in 1973.
