Man arrested after botched home invasion
A 22-year-old man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, among other charges, after an apparent home invasion went south for the suspect late Sunday night.
Police responded to a call about a person shot on the 700 block of Mansion Circle around 11:30 p.m. and found Calvin Carter III being restrained in an apartment by two alleged victims, according to court records.
One of the victims, Shane Finney, 19, told police that he and his friends were in the apartment when an unknown male knocked on the apartment door. He said he heard what he thought was a gun being racked back and forth, which led him to tell the others to get to a back room because the man had a gun. Another alleged victim, identified in the arrest report as victim Komeaux, said he heard that from the back bedroom and jumped through a window to get help but was confronted by Carter, who was indeed holding a gun.
Carter told Komeaux to take him back to the apartment, which he did, and knocked on the door. The others then opened the door to let both inside for fear of their friend’s safety.
Once inside, Carter began threatening the two people inside with the gun and demanded Finney’s phone, which he was using to call 911. Finney began to hand over the phone, but instead grabbed both of Carter’s hands, trying to disarm him.
Another person, identified as victim KaineKell, said he joined Finney and grabbed Carter as well. During the struggle, Finney was shot in his left thigh. The pair then subdued Carter until police arrived.
Carter now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary, reckless endangerment and three counts of aggravated assault. He is scheduled to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Judge Lila Statom on June 27.
