July 4 celebration for kids
Children’s museum party includes 21-bottle geyser salute
Instead of fireworks, kids will set off a 21-bottle geyser salute to Independence Day when the Creative Discovery Museum hosts its annual children’s party on Tuesday, July 4.
Red, White and Blue Day gives families a fun way to celebrate while teaching the historical reason for the holiday. All children know about and love birthdays but how many children ever attend a birthday party for America?
“It is important for children to celebrate holidays with their families,” says Jayne Griffin, CDM director of education. “This event is one of the few opportunities in our community for children and adults to participate in activities that go beyond our normal traditions and customs for the holiday.”
Free admission into the children’s museum will be offered all active-duty military families with valid military ID on Tuesday, good for up to four guests.
Patriotic-themed crafts and activities will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. at the museum. At 2 p.m., Thomas Jefferson
and Uncle Sam costume characters will read the Declaration of Independence followed by bubblewrap fireworks and a colorful confetti drop.
Immediately after those activities, a 21-bottle, Diet Coke geyser salute will honor the military men and women who have served our country. “Happy Birthday, America”
cake and ice cream will be served outside on the museum plaza.
Red, White and Blue Day events are included in regular museum admission of $13.95 ages 2 and older. Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The museum is located at 321 Chestnut St.
