Alanna Royale, Gangstagrass, Tinsley Ellis will highlight Riverfront Nights

- STAFF REPORT

Riverfront Nights returns July 15 with Elliot Root headlining and The Mountain vs. Monkey Town opening. The free summer concert series at Ross’s Landing Park will cover six consecutive Saturdays, concluding with Tinsley Ellis’ “Blues Is Dead” showcase. Stone Cold Fox will open that night.

In addition to offering live music, Riverfront Nights is presented as an “edu-tainment” event, with vendors and booths on hand featuring some of the organizations and businesses that focus on a healthy lifestyle, sustainable development/business practices and outdoor fun.

Elliot Root is a four-piece alternative rock band from Nashville.

Following on July 22 is Alanna Royale, also from Nashville. Lead singer Alanna Quinn-Broadus, known for her powerful vocals, fronts a funky rhythm section and a two-piece horn section.

Gangstagrass, playing July 29, blends hip-hop beats and lyrics with bluegrass sounds like a pedal steel guitar.

Govinda, scheduled Aug. 5, plays a mix of dub step, trip hop, electronica and chill-out music.

Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, on Aug. 12, is an art-rock band that fuses jazz, R&B, rock and harmonies while covering everything from “Whipping Post” to “When the Levee Breaks.”

Tinsley Ellis, performing Aug. 19, is an Atlanta fixture on the blues scene and has been playing here since the ’80s.

The Southern Brewers Festival, which often interrupts the Riverfront Nights schedule, will follow the series this year on Aug. 26.

Gates open and beer sales begin at 6:30 p.m. for Riverfront Nights. Local bands open the night around 7 p.m., and headliners start at 8 p.m. and play until around 10 p.m. You can bring your kids and your dogs, but not coolers.
