Old-school rockers

Future Thieves plays Revelry Room on Tuesday

- STAFF REPORT

Future Thieves didn’t come to Nashville to chase the country dream. They came to rock.

Since moving to Tennessee, they’ve stirred up attention in Music City and beyond those city limits. Their reputation as a great live act has grown through continuous touring, especially since playing Bonnaroo and Summerfest and touring with Black Cadillacs. They say playing live is essential to their creative process.

Local fans can catch them live on Tuesday, July 11, at Revelry Room. Opening will be Guthrie Brown and Nick Lutsko & Band of Silver.

Future Thieves are Elliot Collett (vocals, guitar), Austin McCool (guitar), Nick Goss (bass), and Gianna Gibson (drums).

McCool and Goss grew up as friends in Evansville, Ind., and went to Purdue University. After McCool moved with his band to Nashville, Goss followed later to study music business at Belmont University. The two eventually formed a new band.

Meanwhile, Collett arrived in Nashville with his band from Kentucky, met Goss and McCool and joined them. Then they searched for a drummer, which they found in Gibson. Within a month the guys had enough songs to play a set at The Basement, the well-known Nashville music venue.

Now the Thieves are a big enough name that the music video for their single, “Sucker,” premiered on Jimmy Fallon’s Tumblr page. They’ve also been featured on Conan O’Brien’s TeamCoco.com.

“Honestly, it’s been incredible, almost like a snowball effect,” says Goss. “We’ve always wanted to be known as a pretty straightforward rock band. There’s not any fluff to what we do. We’re really just an old-school rock band from Nashville.”
