6 state lawmakers to advise Boyd’s gubernatorial campaign

- BY JOEL EBERT

Republican gubernatorial candidate Randy Boyd announced Thursday that six state lawmakers will be helping him with campaign advice.

Sens. Richard Briggs and Becky Duncan Massey, and Reps. Kent Calfee, John Ragan, Cameron Sexton and Eddie Smith will be state legislative co-chairs for Boyd’s campaign.

“I am honored and blessed that this outstanding group of leaders will be actively advising and working with me in my campaign for governor as we work together to truly make Tennessee the state of opportunity for everyone in our state,” Boyd said in a statement.

Boyd said several other lawmakers also are supporting his gubernatorial bid, and some are donating to his campaign.

Boyd, who previously served as the state’s Economic and Community Development commissioner, did not say which lawmakers have donated to him. All gubernatorial candidates are required to file their financial disclosures by July 17.

Disclosures now on the state’s campaign finance website show only one lawmaker contribution to Boyd. Sen. Jon Lundberg donated $500 in late June.

Boyd, who launched his campaign in March, is one of three Republican candidates for the post. Williamson County businessman Bill Lee and Sen. Mae Beavers, R-Mount Juliet, are also seeking to replace term-limited Gov. Bill Haslam.
