Basement blaze put out

Fire officials said a basement blaze caused $3,000 in damage to an Ooltewah area home Saturday.

Hamilton County Emergency Services said the fire on East Freemond Circle was reported at 12:52 p.m. Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department crews contained the fire to the basement, emergency services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said. Hot weather caused fire crews to ask for mutual aid, which brought the Catoosa County Fire Department and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue to the scene. Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department covered other calls while the Tri-Community volunteers worked the blaze.

The cause has not been determined.
