Amazon employs thousands in Southeast Tennessee

› Amazon becomes the largest employer in Southeast Tennessee during the Christmas holiday. Last year, Amazon hired 5,000 seasonal workers for its distribution centers in Chattanooga and Charleston, Tenn., to meet holiday shopper demand, an official said.

› Amazon has more than 4,500 full-time employees at its pair of centers, which opened in 2011 in a $139 million investment.
