Indiana man waives extradition
The Indiana man captured Sunday in Bledsoe County, Tenn., on felony child molestation charges has waived extradition and is awaiting transfer back to Indiana.
Twelfth Judicial District Attorney General Mike Taylor said Tuesday that 38-yearold Samual Cravens has been held on a fugitive from justice warrant as he awaits extradition back to Indiana to face three felony counts of child molestation — two counts linked to an incident in Fortville, Ind., and another count to an incident in outlying Hancock County.
Cravens had been on the run since July 18 when he fled from a car and hid out south of Pikeville. Around 8 a.m. CDT Sunday, he was captured without incident.
Fortville authorities said Cravens is accused of forcing a teen girl to have sex with him, according to The Daily Reporter newspaper in Greenfield, Ind. The alleged victim came forward July 13 after the assault took place, and authorities there said they spoke with Cravens briefly that day, asking him to come to the Fortville Police Department to speak with detectives.
Cravens never showed up, and on July 14 authorities in Indiana filed criminal charges against him.
Taylor said Tuesday that Cravens would be held in Bledsoe on the fugitive warrant until Indiana authorities come get him.
Taylor noted that time spent in out-of-state jails does not count against sentences like in-state jail time does, so it usually behooves defendants to return to the state that charged them.
