Taking precautions to enjoy the solar eclipse

-

Like many in the Chattanooga area, the team at Complete Eye Care is also gearing up for the total eclipse on Aug. 21st, and Dr. Bonner can’t stress enough the importance of the correct protective eye wear.

According to a study done by NASA, the safety authenticity of viewing glasses must meet the following standards:

• Have certification information with a designated ISO 12312-2 international standard

• Have the manufacturer’s name and address printed somewhere on the product

• Not be used if they are older than three years, or have scratched or wrinkled lenses • Not use homemade filters or be substituted for with ordinary sunglasses (not even very dark ones) because they are not safe for looking directly at the sun.

“The upcoming eclipse is a once in a lifetime event that can be enjoyed. However, viewing the sun without proper protection will cause permanent vision loss. So please use the appropriate viewing glasses detailed above,”said Dr. Bonner.

The professionals at Complete Eye Care are available Monday – Friday to assist you with all your eye care needs. Walk-ins are welcome should a patient find themselves in an emergency situation. The optical shop is open to the public, and you don’t need an appointment to stop by and you can bring in your outside prescription for glasses and/or contact lenses. They have a variety of frames and contact lens options that fit every budget, need and style.

Complete Eye Care is located at 9453 Dayton Pike in Soddy-Daisy. For more information about their services, the importance of routine eye exams or to schedule an appointment, call 423-332-8222 or visit completeeyecare.org.
