The engagement of Katherine Eugenia Goforth and Curt Patrick Elverd is announced today. The future bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Goforth of Chattanoog­a. Parents of the future bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Elverd of Signal Mountain.

The wedding is planned for Saturday, Oct. 7, at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

The bride-elect is the granddaugh­ter of Wanda DeFord Wilmoth, the late Harold “Duck” Wilmoth and the late Eugene and Mary Katherine Goforth of Chattanoog­a.

Miss Goforth is a graduate of Chattanoog­a School for the Arts and Sciences. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Western Kentucky University, where she was a member of the women’s swimming team. She received a master’s degree in music from Florida State University. She is a music therapist at UK Healthcare Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

The future bridegroom is the grandson of the late Charles and Lucy Kennedy of East Liverpool, Ohio.

Mr. Elverd is a graduate of Chattanoog­a School for the Arts and Sciences. He received a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in instructio­nal leadership from Tennessee Technologi­cal University, where he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity. He is the band director at Brown Middle School.
