TOSCANO adds new recipes to menu

- — Sunny Montgomery

Toscano Italian Grill is founded on tried and true Tuscan recipes: meat lasagna, veal Parm, fettuccine primavera — to name just a few. But its full menu refuses to be typecast, boasting pizza, seafood, subs, wings and a number of fun takes on classic favorites.

For example, its Italian nachos appetizer is Italian in essence, American in concept and all around a delightful indulgence. The shareable plate features deep-fried pasta, Alfredo sauce, chicken and jalapenos. The pasta is surprisingly light and crisp; the chicken and peppers are meaty; and the sauce is creamy and buttery.

And the Italian nachos appetizer is just one example of how Toscano is more than meets the eye — or its name. Recently, by popular request, scratch-made falafel was added to the menu. Then there are its desserts: fried cheesecake, coconut cookies and — the dish that most piqued my interest during my recent visit — bite-sized cinnamon rolls.

Toscano’s vast repertoire of recipes, including its sweet treats, can further be explored through catering. Its catering menu offers a variety of pasta dishes available by the pan or half-pan, as well pizzas, salads, wings and the new falafel dish. Catering orders must be placed 24 hours in advance.

But if you can’t wait that long, why not stop by the store and find a dish that speaks to you? You may come for the authentic eggplant Parmigiana, but I bet you’ll stay for those bite-sized cinnamon rolls.
