Reject nuclear weapons use

-

The Trump/Bannon desecration of most of what we hold sacred gives cause to look at existing power centers in our constitutional democracy.

Power center No. 1 is the media, the free press. The “fourth estate” is constitutionally mandated to keep an eagle eye on government. How is that working?

Power center two is the corporation (or legal fiction created and described by charters issued by states). Supposedly corporations would be overseen by the creator-states.

Over 200 years of relentless effort/litigation, corporations achieved their goal: a dominant, nondependent, immortal “person.” How are we doing with this creature?

Thirdly, the ubiquitous “military industrial complex” that threatens civilian government. Appreciation for warrior sacrifices has evolved into a trust that they are problem solvers. That trust has put three generals in the White House. They must be “advisers” and never “deciders.” How is this working out?

In the dark shadow of North Korea’s threats, it is sobering to remember that President John Kennedy’s joint chiefs actually recommended a pre-emptive first strike with nuclear weapons/ bombs in Cuba.

There is no situation that justifies using such weapons then or now. Kennedy knew it and decided to reject the advice. Blake Moore
