Volleyball Mocs split Challenge matches

The University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a volleyball team beat Louisiana-Monroe 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) and lost 3-1 to Murray State (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-11) in the Chattanoog­a Challenge on Saturday.

Ally Ford had 12 kills in the win, when Miranda Elpers and Emily Plumlee had eight each, Dani Szczepansk­i added seven, Lauren Greenspoon set 34 assists and Megan Kaufman made 21 digs. Elper had 13 kills and Ford had 10 plus 17 digs against MSU (5-1) for the Mocs (4-3), while Greenspoon had 36 assists and Kaufman had 23 digs. Szczepansk­i and Plumlee made all-tournament.

› At Harrogate, Tenn., Lee University won 3-1 over Mars Hill (25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21) and 3-0 over King (25-22, 25-13, 25-19) in Lincoln Memorial’s tournament.

Silvia Sartori and Alex Reuter each made 17 kills for the Lady Flames (3-1) against Mars Hill, when Sartori had 23 digs, Kristi Farley and Sadie Johnson had 22 and 21 assists, MaKayla Beebe had 15 digs and Brooke Wilsman, Allie Koepfer and Farley each added 12. Sartori had 13 kills and Quinne Daoust had eight against King, when Johnson had 16 assists and Beebe had 11 digs.

› At Birmingham, Ala., in the McAttack Bash, Covenant followed a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-9, 26-24) over Sewanee late Friday night with a 3-1 loss (23-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-18) to Washington & Lee and a 3-1 loss also (25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 25-18) to host Birmingham-Southern.

Against Sewanee, the Lady Scots got 20 assists, 18 digs, seven kills and six aces from Schuyler Moore, 15 digs and six kills from Ginny Moore, eight kills from Jessica Seehorn and 16 digs from Hannah Stewart. Schuyler surpassed Covenant’s rally-scoring-era career assists record with 28 against W&L, plus 13 digs, while Ginny had 12 kills and 19 digs, Seehorn nine kills, Hannah Harris eight kills and Sara Delk 13 digs.

Schuyler’s 36 assists against BSC set her record at 2,809, and she also had 14 digs while Ginny had 15 kills and 18 digs. Seehorn had 10 kills and 14 digs and Delk added 12 digs.

For Sewanee against Covenant, Destiny Stewart had eight kills and 11 digs and Peyton Parent had 21 digs. The Tigers lost 3-0 to both W&L (25-19, 25-15, 25-10) and Maryville (2521, 27-25, 25-20) on Saturday. Stewart had 11 kills and 11 digs against the Generals and 10 kills against Maryville, while and Parent had 30 digs in the two matches.

› At Greenville, S.C., Tennessee Wesleyan went 3-1 in the Bob Jones tournament with 3-0 wins over Dallas Christian (25-7, 25-13, 25-11) and Brewton-Parker (25-20, 25-21, 25-23) on Friday and a 3-1 victory over Bob Jones (27-25, 20-25, 25-13, 28-26) and a 3-2 loss to Ohio Christian (2125, 27-25, 25-21, 13-25, 15-7) on Saturday.

Tia Madden had 15 assists and Marjorie Smith had seven kills for TWU (3-6) in the rout of Dallas Christian, and Sydney Ritten and Smith had nine and eight kills and Elizabeth Houk had 11 digs against Brewton-Parker, when Avery Hilliard made seven block solos and Mandi Flores had five. Ritten had 19 kills and Flores and Smith had 10 and nine against BJU, when Madden had 28 assists and Gabi Catt had 12 assists and 11 digs. Olivia Fisher also had 11 digs; Houk had 10.

In the 3-2 loss, Smith had 15 kills, Flores and Ritten each had 12, Fisher had 11, Madden had 23 assists and 20 digs and Catt had 24 assists.

› At Columbia, Ky., in the Southeaste­rn Challenge, Bryan lost 3-0 to both Martin Methodist (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) and Bethel (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) and is 1-8.

Emalie Hicks had 11 kills and Rheagan Kean had 16 digs against MMC, when Mariah Dunlop had 10 digs with six kills, and Veronica Salas had 14 assists and 16 digs with Kean’s 20 digs and Hope Burnett’s seven kills wagainst Bethel.
