Notre Dame outscores Central, 62-34

The offenses from both Central and Notre Dame have proven their potency this high school football season, but the Irish’s attack shone a bit brighter in Notre Dame’s 62-34 home win Friday night.

Notre Dame totaled 550 yards of total offense compared to the Purple Pounders’ 417. Akil Sledge led the Irish (3-1) on the ground with 161 yards and three touchdowns, with Cameron Wynn adding 103 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Wynn also made a huge mark in the passing game with 126 receiving yards and a score from quarterback Landon Allen, who threw for 152 yards in one half of play.

Central (2-2) was led offensively by running back Michael McGhee and quarterback Jaheim Jones. McGhee racked up 144

yards running with two scores on 15 carries and added two touchdowns via screen passes from Jones. Jones ran 10 times during the game for 88 yards and threw for another 101.

“It was a seven-point game heading into the fourth quarter, and I told them I want to see their fight,” Notre Dame coach Charles Fant said. “Somehow they found something in them to power through.

“Sometimes you have to win ugly and pick up your teammates when they get down, and we did that numerous times tonight. Every time a negative play happened on our end, I saw the fight to want to erase it.”
