Volleyball Mocs split Saturday matches

The University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a volleyball team won 3-0 over Jackson State but fell 3-2 to Georgia State in the Scenic City Showdown on Saturday. The last match was a thriller with GSU (4-6) rallying from two sets down to win 22-25, 12-25, 25-21, 25-17, 21-19.

Ally Ford had 20 kills and Sarah Root and Miranda Elpers added 16 and 15 in the loss for UTC (7-4), when Lauren Greenspoon set 61 assists, Megan Kaufman had 30 digs, Bailey Clemons had 20 and Ford and Elpers added 11 apiece, Ford with three aces as well.

In the 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 defeat of Jackson State, Elpers had 11 kills and Dani Szczepansk­i, Root and Ford had nine, eight and seven while Kaufman had 23 digs. Madison Bergren, Greenspoon and Maddie Halsey had 11, 10 and nine assists.

› At Atlanta, Covenant beat Howard Payne 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19) and lost 3-2 to Chapman (20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13) in the Emory Classic as Schuyler Moore had 36 and 38 assists, 18 and 15 digs and three aces each match and sister Ginny Moore had 13 and 11 kills and 16 and 32 digs.

Olivia Becker added eight kills for the Lady Scots (3-4) against Howard Payne, when Hannah Stewart made 18 digs and Emily Moore and Jessica Seehorn had 11 each. Chloe Storm, Becker and Hannah Harris had 11, 10 and eight kills and Allie Jakes had four block solos and 10 block assists against Chapman (5-3), while Stewart had 17 digs.

› At Salem, Va., in the Roanoke College Maroon Classic, Sewanee followed its two victory sweeps Friday with another two wins Saturday, 3-1 (25-16, 16-25, 25-21, 25-17) over Methodist and 3-0 () over Randolph.

Destiny Stewart had 21 kills, six aces 15 digs for the Tigers (4-3) against Methodist, while Olivia Nichols had 13 kills and 10 digs, Constance Connolly 24 assists and 10 digs, Anna Wilson 17 assists and Peyton Parent 14 digs. Against Randolph, Stewart had 16 kills, Parent 16 digs, Stephanie Price nine kills, Connolly 17 assists and Wilson 14 assists.

› At Dayton, Tenn., Bryan College lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-19) Friday to visiting Cumberland­s. Mariah Dunlop had nine kills, Emalie Hicks seven kills, Kristen Parrish 14 digs, Veronica Salas 10 assists and Jennifer Keck nine assists in defeat for the Lady Lions (2-9).

Sewanee wins in field hockey

Virginia Barry and Hannah Tompkins scored goals 31 seconds apart in the 60th minute and Sewanee won 2-0 in field hockey Saturday at Earlham.

Jo Jo Young assisted on Barry’s tiebreakin­g score, and Katya Waters made nine saves in the shutout for the Tigers (2-1).
