SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Brent Stockstill threw touchdown passes on three consecutive drives, Middle Tennessee capitalized on a big Syracuse miscue and overcame more than 100 yards in penalties to defeat Syracuse 30-23 Saturday in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Syracuse (1-1) led 16-9 when Stockstill hit Richie James for a 28-yard scoring strike to tie the game at 16 late in the third quarter. The drive was kept alive on a muffed fair catch by Syracuse’s Sean Riley.
Middle Tennessee (1-1) took the lead when Stockstill found Ty Lee on 48-yard score. After Eric Dungey tied it on a 29-yard quarterback draw, Stockstill hit Shane Tucker for a 10-yard touchdown for a 30-23 lead with 6:46 left to play.

OXFORD, Ohio — Gus Ragland threw three touchdown passes and Miami (Ohio) pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Austin Peay.
Ragland was 11 of 23 for 145 yards passing. He threw a career-high 44 passes in the RedHawks’ 31-26 loss to Marshall in last Saturday’s opener.
Ragland threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Young, and connected on 42 and 34-yard scores to James Gardner to make it 21-7 at halftime.

KENNESAW, Ga. — Darnell Holland broke away for an 84-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to spark the Owls past the visiting Golden Eagles.
Holland, who averaged 37.5 yards per game last season, finished with a career-high 129 yards on four carries. His touchdown run began from his own 16, where he got a pitchout as he swept left and charged down the sideline, breaking a tackle around midfield and eluding more defenders around the Tech 30 with a stagger step before cutting back toward the center as he slanted into the end zone.
Trey Chivers also had a rushing TD for Kennesaw State (1-1) and Chandler Burks passed to Justin Sumpter for a 3-yard TD with four seconds left in the opening half to take 24-0 advantage into the break. Justin Thompson had a 19-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 21-yarder in the third.
Tennessee Tech (0-2) had four turnovers, three of which Kennesaw State converted for points, and was held scoreless until the fourth quarter.
Andre Sale was 31-of42 passing for 297 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Both of Sale’s TD throws were hauled in by Dantae Wilkes. Dontez Byrd had 109 yards on 10 receptions for the Golden Eagles.

At Lexington, Va., the host Generals ran for 554 yards and nine touchdowns, including three each from Walker Brand and Josh Breece, in steamrolling the Tigers. The score was 35-6 at halftime and 56-9 late in the third quarter, Sewanee (1-1) getting field goals of 44, 20 and 42 yards from Michael Jacobs.
