Trump and Corker have a ‘very productive’ meeting

-

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump and Sen. Bob Corker met for more than an hour at the White House on Friday for what the senator’s office described as a “very productive discussion” that covered a broad range of topics.

“Sen. Corker and President Trump had a very productive one-on-one discussion before key members of the White House staff joined them to talk through a number of domestic and foreign policy issues,” the senator’s office said in a statement. “The conversations were wide ranging and extremely constructive,” the statement said. “In all, they were together for well over an hour.”

The Oval Office meeting was the first one-on-one between Trump and Corker since they publicly traded punches earlier this summer. The spat erupted in August when Corker, shortly after Trump’s much-criticized response to the deadly violence in Charlottesville, Va., told reporters that Trump had not yet shown the stability nor some of the competence needed to become successful.

A week later, Trump fired back at Corker on Twitter, calling Corker’s statement strange “considering that he is constantly asking me whether or not he should run again in ’18.” “Tennessee not happy!” Trump exclaimed. Corker said his relationship with Trump wasn’t harmed by the exchange, which he described as nothing more than two blunt men speaking their minds.
