Jonathan Mason running for House District 30 seat

- STAFF REPORT

East Brainerd resident Jonathan Mason has announced he is running for the Republican nomination for the District 30 state representative seat.

Mason, who works in the insurance sector, owns a salon with his wife, Rachael. He previously served as the chairman of Hamilton County Young Republicans, treasurer of East Ridge Revitalization and was a member of several community advisory boards, according to a news release from his campaign.

“Seeking public office is an endeavor that has required much prayer,” Mason said. “Having worked diligently to ensure principled, conservative representation within District 30 and areas across Hamilton County, I now ask for the privilege to serve.”

District 30 includes parts of Chattanooga, East Ridge, East Brainerd, Apison and Collegedale. Current state Rep. Marc Gravitt is not seeking re-election and will run for the Hamilton County register of deeds post.

Mason said he is “honored by the many community and business leaders that have offered words of encouragement and support, and thankful to my wife and family for taking this step by my side to represent the citizens of District 30.”

Mason recently moved to East Brainerd after living in East Ridge. He is a graduate of Carson-Newman University and he and his wife, who are longtime members of Morris Hill Baptist Church, have two children.

The Republican primary election will be on Aug. 2, 2018.
