Ish Sanders moving on in pro basketball

Former Cleveland High School and Carson-Newman standout Ish Sanders continues to progress in his profession­al basketball career. He will play the 2017-18 season with El Yosiquese Cordobaske­t in the Spanish league after being recognized last season as one of the top five players in the Big V league in Australia. Playing for the Sunbury Jets, Sanders was second in the Big V in scoring with 28.3 points per game and also averaged 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals. He scored fewer than 20 points only twice, topped 30 five times and pumped in 51 on May 28 against Mildura. Earlier that month he had games of 48 and 45 points. Sanders previously played in Slovakia and Kosovo.

FOOTBALL

› Former McCallie School football star Andrew Busby, now a senior linebacker at NCAA Division III Centre College, was chosen the Southern Athletic Associatio­n football defensive player of the week. Busby had a career-high 14 total tackles, including 11 solo and three tackles for loss, in the Colonels’ 52-42 win over Hendrix last Saturday. He also had three quarterbac­k hurries, forced two fumbles and was in on a safety in the second quarter.

VOLLEYBALL

› Visiting Judson College from Marion, Ala., beat Georgia Northweste­rn 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-16) in USCAA volleyball Thursday, dropping the Lady Bobcats to 0-8. Jamese Miller had six kills and four blocks, Kayleigh Goff totaled five blocks and Morgen Simmons served three aces in defeat.

TENNIS

› The second annual Manker Patten Fall Classic is set for 4-8 p.m. Sunday as a grand opening of the club’s riverfront terrace and a chance to “meet the Mocs” University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a tennis teams. The event costs $50 a person and will include adult round-robin and Liveball play with the Mocs, dinner, drinks and dancing. RUNNING

› In conjunctio­n with the Little Debbie Ironman Chattanoog­a races this weekend, the Ironkids Chattanoog­a Fun Run will be held for ages 3-13 Saturday at 9 a.m. at Ross’s Landing. The one-mile and half-mile runs are sponsored by UnitedHeal­thcare in partnershi­p with the DuPont Elementary School fifth grade, and the school will hold a training event Friday from 1:40 to 2:25 p.m. with Ironman triathlete­s leading children in exercises and relays.
