9 crews battle house fire
The Chattanooga Fire Department fought a major blaze in a house in the 1200 block of O’Grady Drive in Lookout Valley on Sunday.
No one was home at the time of the fire. It took nine fire companies 45 minutes to get the fire in the two-story house under control, according to a news release.
The release said the home’s tin roof made firefighting difficult and the house suffered extensive damage. Firefighters tried to attack the blaze from inside, but heavy fire and structural instability led to them being pulled out, the release stated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no dollar amount for property damage had been set as of Sunday evening.
This is the fourth fire in Lookout Valley in a week.
Last Sunday a fire claimed the life of a man and badly injured a woman in the 1200 block of Judy’s Lane, just a half mile away.
Another fire happened later the same day in the 3200 block of Beech Street. A man had to jump from a second-floor window to escape, injuring both his ankles.
The third fire was Wednesday in the 100 block of Centro Avenue. A woman was found on the floor, breathing but unresponsive in the smoke-filled house.
She was transported to the burn unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where she was in critical condition.
