DURHAM, N.C. — Malik Rosier threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, and No. 14 Miami’s defense shut down Duke in a 31-6 victory Friday night. Rosier threw for 270 yards, including a 49-yard catch-and-run score by Ahmmon Richards early in the fourth quarter. Richards’ score broke it open, giving the Hurricanes (3-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) a 24-6 lead with 11:02 left. Mark Walton — averaging a conference-best 176 yards rushing through two games — managed only 51 yards on 17 carries against the nation’s No. 2-ranked rushing defense. But he added 79 yards receiving before leaving in the fourth quarter with an injury. Hurricanes linebacker Michael Pinckney had 10 tackles, a fourth-down sack on Duke’s opening drive and a second-quarter interception to lead the effort that kept the Blue Devils (4-1, 1-1) out of the end zone. Duke finished with 349 yards, but was just 5-for-19 on third-down conversions. The Blue Devils twice settled for field goals of 36 yards or shorter after drives stalled, and they have scored nine touchdowns and nine field goals in 23 trips inside the red zone this season.

› OKLAHOMA CITY — Russell Westbrook is staying with the Thunder. The superstar point guard and reigning NBA MVP signed a contract extension to remain in Oklahoma City, the team announced Friday. ESPN first reported the agreement and said it would be for five years and worth $205 million. Westbrook made an Instagram post Friday afternoon, with the photo of him yelling at Chesapeake Energy Arena with his arms raised in the air. His words of choice to go with the photo are the words he lives by and the name of his charitable foundation: “WHY NOT??” Westbrook said this week that Oklahoma City is where he wanted to be. He said he was thrilled with the offseason additions of four-time All-Star Paul George and 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony. Both have player options on their deals after this season. Westbrook averaged a triple-double last season and was the league scoring champion.

› PHILADELPHIA — Pete Mackanin is out as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies after 2 1/2 seasons. On Friday, the team announced Mackanin would manage the final three games this season for the rebuilding club and be replaced in 2018, when he will serve as a special assistant to general manager Matt Klentak. The Phillies have not been to the postseason since 2011. The 66-yearold Mackanin succeeded Hall of Fame player Ryne Sandberg on June 26, 2015. His record with Philadelphia is 173-237. Mackanin received a contract extension through 2018 on May 11 after the Phillies had lost nine of 11 games. They went 4-16 in 20 games afterward. Philadelphia has improved since the All-Star break, going 35-37, but it wasn’t enough to secure Mackanin’s return.
