TONIGHT’S PREP FOOTBALL GAMES

MCMINN COUNTY CHEROKEES (1-5, 0-3) AT OOLTEWAH OWLS (3-3, 1-1)

Storyline: The Owls are coming off a much-needed open date and the opportunity to recuperate, but RB Sincere Quinn remains day-today with an ankle injury and LB Tyler Henderson is done for the season due to a broken ankle. Both teams are fighting for the postseason, looking up at Maryville, Bradley Central and even Heritage in the Region 2-6A standings. The Cherokees have had a rough time of it, with their only win in the season opener against McMinn Central, which is still winless. Their season includes losses to Farragut, which is 7-0, Maryville (5-1) and Bradley (5-1). McMinn will continue to employ ball control with its wing-T offense, trying to click off minutes and keep Ooltewah’s high-scoring crew on the sideline.

BRADLEY CENTRAL BEARS (5-1) AT SODDY-DAISY TROJANS (4-2)

Storyline: The Bears might like a replay of their season-opening, six-point loss to unbeaten Farragut, but they have rebounded nicely with five straight wins, including defeats of Region 2-6A rivals Ooltewah, Cleveland and McMinn County. They’ve done so behind blossoming QB Dylan Standifer, who is surrounded by a fair-sized group of veterans, including WR Lameric Tucker. Yes, they’ll be throwing the ball tonight, perhaps as much as the air-minded Trojans, who boast another blossoming QB in Gavin Chambers. Class 5A’s Soddy-Daisy has been awfully tough to date this season, with each of its losses by a single point — 15-14 to Lenoir City and 49-48 to Knoxville Catholic.
