Receptions Friday open new art exhibits

RIVER GALLERY

An opening reception will be held Friday, Oct. 6, to open the October exhibit of work by Scott Hill and Brian Russell at River Gallery, 400 E. Second St. Visitors may meet the two artists during the free reception held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Hill uses layers of oil paint to create images of a forgotten time. Russell’s lifelong passion for sailing, nature and the human form inspires his forged metal and colored, cast-glass sculptures.

IN-TOWN GALLERY

A reception Friday, Oct. 6, will open an exhibit of work by Victoria Kile and Sandra Paynter Washburn at In-Town Gallery, 26-A Frazier Ave. The public is invited to meet the artists between 5 and 8 p.m.

The two present different perspectiv­es on the historical role of home arts using materials reinterpre­ted into works of art. The exhibit features ceramic sculpture by Kile and paintings and assemblage­s by Washburn.

MICHAEL’S FINE ART AND FRAMING

Three women with different styles of art are combining their talent into one show at Michael’s Fine Art and Framing, which opens today, Oct. 5, and continues through Nov 30.

An opening reception will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. honoring artists Judy Wright, Faye Wolfe and Janice B. Kennedy at Michael’s, 1325 Dug Gap Road in Dalton, Ga.

Wright is an expression­istic painter whose work leans toward the abstract. Wolfe is a contempora­ry artist known for her use of bright colors.

Kennedy builds paintings by beginning with a complex background of strokes, color and textures to provide an interestin­g backdrop to her art. She is always on the lookout for found objects to incorporat­e into her art.
