Wine Over Water
Sample from 200 wines and 16 restaurants at Saturday’s benefit on the Walnut Street Bridge
Wine Over Water has raised nearly $30 million for historic preservation in Chattanooga since its founding in 1994 for Cornerstones.
The annual wine-tasting on the Walnut Street Bridge was a forerunner of wine-tasting fundraisers in this city and its crowds have continued to grow to such extent that organizers decided this year to turn the one event into seven. They include the bridge event on Saturday, Oct. 7, as well as six offthe-bridge events.
Wine Over Water offers guests the opportunity to sample any of more than 200 wines representing nearly 100 wineries. Sixteen local restaurants will serve small plates on the bridge, along with charcuterie from Publix and bread from Bluff View Bakery.
Amanda Carmichael, Wine Over Water publicist, says the addition of off-the-bridge events is a way of bringing attention to locations around Chattanooga that have benefited from the fundraiser. For example, the MLK Brewery & Bites Tour that is scheduled Friday evening, Oct. 6.
“The MLK district was one of our projects last year and the year before. We will be able to highlight that whole district with this event,” she says. “Another early Cornerstones project was St. John’s Restaurant’s building. Feed Co. (where a yoga brunch is scheduled) was a historic building that’s been adaptively reused.”
Money raised this weekend will help fund renovation of the Ross Meehan Foundry building, as well as be divided among other Cornerstones projects.
All Wine Over Water events have separate tickets, allowing patrons to customize their party package.
