City employee resigns after funds go missing
SUMMERVILLE, GA. — A Summerville employee resigned amid an investigation into missing charity funds. Police Chief Stan Mosley said the fund balance was lower than he expected when he and his captain checked the financial records for Santa in Uniform, a program in which the department buys Christmas presents for underprivileged children. He said he called the bank to check on withdrawals from the account and found “an error on some of the things that was spent that we didn’t have knowledge of.”
Mosley said he also found that Municipal Court Clerk Stacy Fountain had signed off on some of the paperwork concerning the questionable purchases. “She couldn’t give an answer for why it was there,” Mosley said.
The chief discovered the issue and asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into it. GBI Special Agent in Charge Greg Ramey confirmed his office received a complaint about the potential theft of funds.
