Lee Theatre presents evening of comedy

- STAFF REPORT

Lee University’s Theatre Department will present “An Evening of Comedy: A Collection of Short Plays” by David Ives — an award-winning evening of comedies that combine wit, intellect, satire and just plain fun.

Performances will take place at 7 and 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Nov. 9-11 in the Buzz Oates Theatre, located in Lee’s Communication Arts Building.

“As we were building our season, we were looking for something that would provide a variety of roles for our students and a comedic piece for our audience,” said Dr. Christine Williams, play director and associate professor of theatre at Lee.

“The idea to do a collection of short plays was intriguing because it allows for a larger number of students to perform and introduces our audience to the wide variety of plays that exist. David Ives is a master of short and comedic plays. I think while this experience will be unique, our audiences will enjoy this evening of short plays produced at a level consistent with our usual season of full-length productions,” said Williams.

“Short play festivals are very popular in larger cities but it is less common to see them performed in smaller community and regional theatres,” said Williams. “We thought this would be an excellent addition to our ongoing mission to introduce our campus and larger community to the large array of options in the world of dramatic literature.”

Tickets will be available at the Box Office one hour before curtain time. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children, seniors and students. Tickets are also available online at leeuniversity.edu/theatre. Reserved seating is available through the online process.

Lee Theatre recommends viewing “An Evening of Comedy: A Collection of Short Plays” for ages 10 and up.
