Mary Jo Strickland

ELKMONT — Mary Jo Strickland, 82, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017. She was born in Dade County, Ala., to the late, James and Margaret Drew but had lived in the North Georgia area for most of her life and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, reading, shopping and loved cooking for family and friends. She was a loving and devoted sister, wife, mother and grandmother who will be truly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Strickland; infant son, James Calvin Nelson and several siblings.

Survivors include her children and spouses, Grady Frank and (Denise) Nelson Jr., of Kensington, Ga., Deborah Hicks, of Elkmont, Ala., Rickey Lee Nelson, of LaFayette, Ga., and Connie Grace Wynn, of Ardmore, Ala.; siblings, Leroy and (Carolyn) Drew, of Flintstone, Ga., Francie Guffey, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Susie and (Leonard) Casey, of Trenton, Ga.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, in the Estelle Cemetery in Kensington, Ga. with Rev. Ronald Guffey officiating.

The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. today and prior to leaving for the graveside service on Saturday.
