Alabama third-string quarterback Mac Jones was arrested Friday morning and charged with driving under the influence, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Jones is a freshman who is redshirting this season, and he was suspended Friday afternoon by coach Nick Saban for tonight’s home game against LSU.

According to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Jones also was charged with improper identification by a minor. Bond was set at $1,000 for the DUI and $300 for the ID violation.

“We are disappointed in Mac’s actions, and this is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players,” Saban said in a released statement. “We will further evaluate what actions we need to take moving forward so we can correct the behavior. It is a privilege to represent the University of Alabama, and there are certain responsibilities that go along with that privilege.”

Jones was 247Sports.com’s No. 18 pro-style quarterback nationally in the 2017 signing class out of The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Fla. He moved up his graduation schedule to be able to attend spring practice with the Crimson Tide.

After competing with fellow freshman Tua Tagovailoa for the right to back up sophomore starter Jalen Hurts, Jones was pegged third on the depth chart.
