Gunfire keeps police officers busy
Chattanooga and East Ridge authorities investigated a shooting Sunday night at a gas station in East Ridge, and Chattanooga police investigated another apparent fatal shooting on East 11th Street earlier Sunday evening.
In the fatal shooting, Chattanooga police started an investigation around 7:19 p.m. Sunday into a man found unresponsive in the 700 block of East 11th Street. Chattanooga police Sgt. Adam Emery said the call was reported as an unconscious party, and when medical personnel arrived, they determined the man was suffering from a gunshot wound. The man died at the scene.
At 8:15 p.m., crime scene tape encircled a small section of Passenger Street between East 10th and East 11th streets. A body covered with a white sheet could be seen on the sidewalk as police walked the perimeter with flashlights looking for any evidence.
In East Ridge, East Ridge and Chattanooga police around 9 p.m. Sunday responded to a shots fired report at the Speedway in the 4200 block of Ringgold Road, where one victim was confirmed.
A blue Nissan Versa taped off at a gas pump was riddled with bullet holes, but authorities learned soon the shots were fired in Brainerd.
CPD homicide detective Chris Blackwell confirmed at the scene in East Ridge that the shooting happened off McBrien Road.
Hamilton County 911 logs show that a report of shots fired was made just before 9 p.m. at 211 McBrien Road in Chattanooga.
A distressed young man who was in the car when the shots were fired said the car was stopped at a stop sign on McBrien Road near a church.
