GEORGIA BULLDOGS

-

QUARTERBACKS

Jake Fromm continues to meet every challenge in his freshman season. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns against the Gamecocks, and he had a 12-yard run as part of an offense that amassed a healthy 438 yards.

RUNNING BACKS

Even with the Gamecocks sold out to stop the run, the Bulldogs managed 242 rushing yards and averaged 4.6 yards per carry. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel averaged 5.1 yards, with Chubb pounding out 102 yards on 20 carries.

RECEIVERS

Terry Godwin’s fumble on the first possession kept Georgia from blowing things open early, but he regrouped with three catches for 53 yards. Javon Wims and Mecole Hardman had acrobatic touchdown catches.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Nothing came easy, especially compared to recent weeks, but Georgia’s methodical performance included 26 first downs, an average gain of 5.8 yards per play and four scoring drives of 10 or more plays.

DEFENSIVE LINE

South Carolina became one-dimensional relatively quickly, rushing just 17 times for 43 yards. David Marshall was credited with half a sack, while Trenton Thompson broke up a pass.

LINEBACKERS

Reggie Carter and Roquan Smith were stout inside, combining on 16 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Georgia joined a lengthy list of teams that struggle to contain tight end Hayden Hurst, who had seven catches for 93 yards.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Malkom Parrish and J.R. Reed had interceptions as the Bulldogs won the turnover battle, which isn’t easy against South Carolina. The Gamecocks did throw for 227 yards, with quarterback Jake Bentley proving to be resilient.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Rodrigo Blankenship made a 20-yard field goal and had three touchbacks in four kickoffs, but the top play for this group was Hardman downing a Cameron Nizialek punt at the South Carolina 1.

COACHING

This win didn’t come easy, but it was never in doubt once Georgia went up 21-7 early in the third quarter. Given the attention of being No. 1 in the playoff rankings, that qualifies as passing the test.
