Kenney, Gutman continue Lee’s Performing Arts Series

Lee University School of Music welcomes violinist Alexi Kenney and pianist Renana Gutman to campus Monday, Nov. 13, to continue the university’s Performing Arts Series.

Their concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Center on Lee’s Cleveland, Tenn., campus. They will perform works by Bach, Respighi, Salonen and Schubert.

The recipient of a 2016 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Kenney has been praised by The New York Times for “immediatel­y drawing listeners in with his beautifull­y phrased and delicate playing.” He won the 2013 Concert Artists Guild Competitio­n and has performed at Carnegie Hall.

Kenney’s main focus is chamber music. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from New England Conservato­ry of Music, where he is currently completing his Artist Diploma.

Gutman has played on four different continents in locations such as the Louvre Museum, St. Petersburg’s Philharmon­ia, Carnegie Hall and Stresa Music Festival. The New York Times describes her playing as “passionate and insightful.”

She is a member of the Echoes of Hope project, which is dedicated to performing obscure pieces by Jewish composers who died in the Holocaust. A native of Israel, Gutman came to the United States to complete her bachelor and master of music degrees at Mannes College of Music.

Along with performing, Gutman has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin Music School in the United Kingdom. She currently teaches at Bard College Preparator­y in New York.
