BULLDOGS GAME IN BITS & PIECES

- David Paschall SEC beat writer

SATURDAY’S STAR

Auburn junior running back Kerryon Johnson took his workhorse of a season to a new level, carrying 32 times for 167 yards and averaging 5.2 yards. Throw in last week’s totals at Texas A&M, and he has 61 rushes for 312 yards.

SATURDAY’S STAT

When Daniel Carlson’s third field goal gave Auburn a 9-7 lead, it marked the first deficit for Georgia this year in an SEC game. Auburn’s 40-17 win is its largest over Georgia since a 33-10 triumph over the 1990 Bulldogs, who went 4-7.

TURNING POINT

With Auburn leading 16-7 early in the second half, Georgia punt returner Mecole Hardman fumbled at his 23-yard line, setting up a four-play Tigers touchdown drive that ended with Jarrett Stidham’s 7-yard keeper that made it 23-7.

HIGHLIGHT PLAY

Little went right for Georgia during a second quarter in which its 7-6 lead turned into a 16-7 deficit, but senior receiver Javon Wims made an acrobatic catch over Tigers cornerback Carlton Davis for a 30-yard gain to Auburn’s 41.

WHAT IT MEANS

Georgia can still accomplish its goal of a league title and a berth in college football’s four-team playoff by winning its next three games, but will Saturday have a lingering shellshock effect? Kentucky (7-3) visits this week.
