Tapestry next up in St. Paul’s Artist Series If you go
“Starry Night: A Candlelight Holiday Celebration” will be the next performance in the St. Paul’s Artist Series featuring Tapestry women’s vocal ensemble.
The concert will take place at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St., on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m.
The award-winning vocal ensemble, based in Boston, has established an international reputation for its bold conceptual programming, which combines medieval and traditional repertory with contemporary compositions.
Laurie Monahan, Cristi Catt and Daniela Tosic founded the ensemble in 1995. Critics have praised their rich voices, their “technically spot-on singing” and emotionally charged performances.
For this program, the trio will be joined by multi-instrumentalist James Falzone, who plays clarinet, whistles, chimes and shruti box.
Vocalist Catt says, “Starry Night was originally created by Tapestry for a special on-site performance at the famed Wilson Observatory in Los Angeles, where Edwin Hubble made his discoveries about the expanding universe.

Through Starry Night, Tapestry takes audiences on a journey exploring the cycles of the moon and stars, as well as human life from childhood to young love, and finally to the wisdom of age.”
Alan Hovhannes’s melody, “In Early Dawn Song,” will serve as a common thread through the concert as seasonal favorites are woven into a program featuring “Nuit d’Etoiles” by Debussy, “Lady Moon by Hovhannes” and 16th-century Spanish Villancicos.
