FCS PLAYOFFS Wofford pulls away from Furman

SPARTANBUR­G, S.C. — Blake Morgan had one touchdown rushing and another receiving and seventh-seeded Wofford defeated Southern Conference rival Furman 28-10 on Saturday in the second round of the Football Championsh­ip Subdivisio­n.

Chase Nelson and Miller Mosley also ran for touchdowns for the Terriers (10-2), who beat the Paladins (8-5) 24-23 in the season opener by intercepti­ng a two-point conversion attempt in the final minute.

Wofford plays at second-seeded North Dakota State in the quarterfin­als next weekend.

Morgan scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter and a 33-yard catchand-run connection from Brandon Goodson in the second quarter after Furman had taken the lead. Goodson finished 8-of-11 for 88 yards.

Nelson scored in the third quarter and Mosley in the fourth, both on 2-yard runs. Wofford finished with 291 yards on the ground.

› James Madison 26, Stony Brook 7

HARRISONBU­RG, Va. — Bryan Schor threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, and 2016 champion James Madison tied a Division I program record with five intercepti­ons in a victory over 10th-ranked Stony Brook.

The Dukes have won 24 straight, dating to last season, for the longest active streak in Division I.

Raven Greene, Jordan Brown, Jimmy Moreland, Rashad Robinson and Curtis Oliver all had intercepti­ons — with Greene returning one 36 yards to tie a program record with 13 career intercepti­ons.

Marcus Marshall and Percy Agyei-Obese each had 15 yards rushing as James Madison (12-0) was held to 49 yards on the ground. The Dukes entered averaging 211.4 yards a game on the ground. Terrence Alls caught 10 passes for 94 yards and a score.

JMU scored 26 straight points until Joe Carbone found Harrison Jackson for a 37-yard touchdown with 11:40 remaining in the game.

Carbone threw for 207 yards and a score for Stony Brook (10-3) but was intercepte­d five times.

› Kennesaw State 17, Jacksonvil­le State 7

JACKSONVIL­LE, Ala. — Chandler Burks and Darnell Holland scored touchdowns and the Kennesaw State defense held third-seeded Jacksonvil­le State to 187 yards of offense.

Burks passed for 126 yards and led the Owls’ rushing attack with 76, including a 2-yard score on the first play of the fourth quarter to complete an 11-play, 72-yard drive for a 17-7 lead. Burks became the first quarterbac­k in Big South history to go over 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 passing yards in a season.

Holland’s 9-yard run early in the third quarter gave the Owls (12-1) a 10-7 lead. Jacksonvil­le State had held eight teams under 100 yards rushing, giving up an average of just 63.1 per game this year, second in the FCS, but surrendere­d 213 Saturday and 339 total yards offense.

Roc Thomas had given the Gamecocks (10-2) a 7-0 lead with a 22-yard run in the second quarter before the Owls’ Justin Thompson kicked a 25-yard field goal with 1:02 left in the half.

› New Hampshire 21, Central Arkansas 15

CONWAY, Ark. — Freshman Christian Lupoli and Trevor Knight each threw a touchdown pass and New Hampshire forced four turnovers to help upset fourth-seeded Central Arkansas.

Jackson Housman gave UNH a 14-7 lead in the third quarter by returning an intercepti­on 56 yards for his first career touchdown. Hayden Hildebrand’s off-balance pass was deflected into the arms of Horn, and he raced down the left sideline.

Lupoli’s first career touchdown pass came with 7:19 remaining in the game on Malik Love’s diving 9-yard score for a 21-9 lead. Central Arkansas struck back on its next play as Cedric Battle raced for a 78-yard score.

New Hampshire (9-4) will play No. 5 seed South Dakota State in the quarterfin­als.

› North Dakota State 38, San Diego 3

FARGO, N.D. — Easton Stick threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, and second-seeded North Dakota State rolled past San Diego.

The Bison (11-1), who won five consecutiv­e FCS titles from 2012-’16 and lost to eventual champion James Madison in the semifinals last year, will take on No. 7 seed Wofford in the quarterfin­als. The Bison also beat San Diego (10-3) in last year’s second round, 45-7.

Leading 17-0 at halftime, the Bison broke the game open with a 21-point third quarter with Ty Brooks running 23 yards for a score, Bruce Anderson scoring on a 48-yard screen pass and Stick throwing 13 yards to RJ Urzendowsk­i, who made a diving, one-handed grab.

› Sam Houston State 54, South Dakota 42

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Jeremiah Briscoe threw four touchdown passes — three to Davion Davis — and Corey Avery ran for two scores as No. 6 seed Sam Houston State outlasted South Dakota State.

The Bearkats (11-1), who piled up 33 first downs and 708 yards of total offense and won their 20th straight home game, play host to Kennesaw State in the quarterfin­als next weekend.

Briscoe was 28-of-43 for 505 yards and one intercepti­on. Davis had touchdown receptions of 44 and 13 yards in the first quarter and 12 yards in the final minute of the second quarter to produce a 41-14 lead. Davis had eight receptions for 131 yards and also scored on a 7-yard run in the second quarter.

Nathan Stewart had seven receptions for 180 yards and a 44-yard touchdown. Avery finished with 100 yards, surpassing 3,000 for his career, with his second 1-yard TD giving Sam Houston a 51-42 lead with 8:07 to play.

› South Dakota State 37, Northern Iowa 22

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Taryn Christion threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score to lead South Dakota State over Northern Iowa.

Fifth-seeded South Dakota State (10-2) avenged a 38-18 loss to Northern Iowa (8-5) on Oct. 14. In the first half, Christion threw a 2-yard score to Cade Johnson, ran for a 21-yard touchdown, and floated a 28-yard pass to Dallas Goedert in the end zone just before halftime for a 26-7 lead.

Christion’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Brown stretched the lead to 34-7 early in the fourth. Chase Vinatieri made three field goals, including a 55-yarder, for
