LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN — Charles W. Anderson, Lookout Mountain, Georgia, born Aug. 1, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to Clarence and Edith Anderson, died early Dec. 5, 2017, at Life Care Center in Hixson after a brief illness. Chuck labored for his Lord first as a pastor in Philadelphia, Pa., and then as a pastor for ten years at Boothwyn Presbyterian Church in Boothwyn, Pa.

He took a drastic change in his life, moving to Lookout Mountain in 1964 to teach Biblical Studies at Covenant College, retiring in 1993. While there, he was a popular teacher, and he also coached teams in basketball, soccer, and cross-country, and served as athletic director until 1967.

Growing up in Chicago during the Great Depression, Chuck had one brother, Lane, and sisters Arlene, who preceded Chuck in death, and a sister, Phyllis. He was a lifelong Cubs fan and, like Cubs fans everywhere, rejoiced when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.

During World War II, Chuck served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was discharged after the war’s end. He went first to Huntington College in Indiana before transferring to Wheaton College in Illinois, where he met Florence Chisholm, and the two married shortly after graduation in 1949.

Chuck then attended Faith Theological Seminary in Wilmington, Del. After graduation, he pastored a small church in Philadelphia before moving to Boothwyn, and finally to Covenant College. He and Floss had two children, Nancy Anderson, who is a retired home healthcare nurse in Chattanooga, and Bill, who is a professor at Frostburg State University in Maryland. They had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Floss preceded Chuck, passing away in 2014.

The family will hold visitation Friday evening at Wann Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Covenant College chapel.

A reception to greet family members will be held at the chapel lobby at 1 p.m.

A private interment ceremony at Forest Hills Cemetery will follow.
