FLAT ROCK — Franklin Eugene (Gene) Lewis went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. He was currently serving as pastor of Caperton’s Chapel Baptist Church in Flat Rock. Gene was truly a man of God and had served in the ministry for about 58 years. He was the founding pastor of Sequoyah Baptist Tabernacle in Soddy- Daisy, Tenn. and had served as pastor in various churches in Tenn., Ala. and Ga. He also was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Lewis; brother, Herbert Lewis and the love of his life, his wife Phyllis.

Gene is survived by his sons, Timothy (Sabrina) Lewis of Cookeville, Tenn. and Paul Lewis of Ringgold, Ga.; daughter, Hannah (Justin) Owens of Rossville, Ga.; He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his prayer partner, Diane Brackett and like a son, James (Lynn) Lewis of Jasper, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, Chad (Justina) Lewis,Natasha Lewis, Brandi (Jay) Mineard, Braylee Owens and Dallis Lewis; two sisters, Barbara (Charles) Holland of Blue Ridge, Ga. and Christine Scoggins of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; two great grandchild­ren, Layla and Ethan Mineard; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind the most loving, caring church family that he was so proud of. They truly follow Jesus’ example and instructio­ns to “Love One Another”.

Gene will always be remembered by his humorous preaching tactics. He had a special way of sharing the gospel and we will never know how many lives he touched as he did his best to serve the Lord and win people to Christ.

Visitation will be at Tate Funeral Home, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017 from 2 to 8 p.m. CST.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Tate Funeral Home chapel Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at noon CST. After the service Gene and his family will be presented with full military honors presented by The Sequatchie Valley Honor Guards. Gene was a stickler for detail so at his request his active deacons, the Dr. Mike Lowrey, the bro. Bill Eller, the bro. Phil Hampton and the bro. Chris Moses will officiate at the service.

Interment will follow at Parker’s Gap Cemetery on East Brainerd Road, Chattanoog­a, TN.

The family wishes to express their appreciati­on for the love and support they have received from their many friends and family. God bless you and remember that Gene truly loved you all.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Caperton’s Chapel Baptist Church, 214 County Rd 14, Flat Rock, AL 35966.
