High-speed chase ends with DUI suspect stuck on fence

A high-speed car chase through Atlanta ended Friday with officers using a Taser on a man as a wrought-iron fence penetrated his skin.

Troopers found guns and several stolen items on the allegedly drunk Fairburn man when they arrested him after a chase that neared 100 mph, Georgia State Patrol officials said in a news release.

Authorities said Roswell police were initially chasing Kierris Alexander, 32, who was in a stolen Toyota Tundra, before they called the GSP for backup.

Alexander, who was wanted out of Bartow County, admitted during his arrest he was under the influence of multiple drugs, the GSP said.

At 2:20 a.m., a trooper spotted Alexander on Georgia 400 near I-285 going 93 mph, roughly 30 mph over the speed limit. The trooper attempted to stop Alexander, who officials said exited Ga. 400 at Sidney Marcus Boulevard, ran a red light and hit and injured a driver, who was taken to the hospital.

But Alexander kept going. The trooper followed him through a parking lot, along two other streets and down Lenox Road, where they say he drove down the wrong side of the road and lost his left tire.

Before the truck crashed, Alexander jumped out and ran to a nearby townhome complex, the GSP said. While trying to climb a residential fence to get away, he got stuck.

As officers were using their Tasers on Alexander, the spikes in the wrought-iron fence stabbed him. Officials eventually worked to get him down.

Police found a .380-caliber gun on Alexander and discovered a second gun in the car, along with stolen items that may be from other crimes, the GSP said.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. His condition was not released.

Alexander faces DUI and several other traffic-related charges. He also faces charges out of Roswell.
