SLIDESHOW & TELL

Singer, actor, TV host Henry Rollins presents travelogue in Walker Theatre

- STAFF REPORT

As vocalist for Black Flag, Henry Rollins fronted one of the most influential punk bands of the 1980s.

But he won’t be singing in his show tonight, Jan. 11, at Walker Theatre. Tonight’s event is a slideshow-and-tell of photographs from his travels — but it’s not your mama’s travelogue. “It’s like an adventure film, but one frame at a time,” he said in a news release about the program, Travel Slideshow. For many years, Rollins has used his camera to document his travels around the world: Tibet, Vietnam, North Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan, Uganda, Haiti, Cambodia, Easter Island, Antarctica and more. In Travel Slideshow, he describes the stories behind his pictures.

Entertainment Weekly has described Rollins as a “Punk rock icon. Spoken-word poet.

Actor. Author. DJ.” TV Guide calls him a “Renaissance Man.”

When he’s not traveling, Rollins keeps a relentless schedule, with gigs as author, DJ, voice-over artist and TV show host as well as singing. He has appeared on shows such as “Sons of Anarchy,” and voiced characters on cartoons.

He currently hosts a weekly radio show on LA’s NPR affiliate, in addition to writing weekly columns for the LA Weekly and Rolling Stone Australia.

In 2013, Rollins joined the History Channel’s H2 network as host of the TV show “10 Things You Don’t Know About.”

In 2014, he received the Ray Bradbury Creativity Award in recognition of his lifelong contribution to the arts, his passion for social activism, as well as bringing awareness to the importance of maintaining books and libraries.
