WTCI wins regional Emmy for ‘Fallen Five’ feature

WTCI-TV 45 won the Midsouth Regional Emmy Award in the “Documentar­y/ Cultural” category for the Greater Chattanoog­a episode it produced focused on the five soldiers killed July 16, 2015, called “For the Fallen.”

The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the winners.

Bo Wheeler (producer), Shaun Townley (executive producer), John Cotton (aerial photograph­y), Emily Compton (associate producer), and Tyler Pugh (photograph­y/ audio), as well as interns Jameka Lewis, Matt Vogler and Doug Whitehead, produced

the episode.

Local artist Kevin Bate worked 10 months to memorializ­e

the five men in a mural on McCallie Avenue, and the WTCI team followed Bate through his process. They also produced segments introducin­g the five fallen men — Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Sgt. Carson Holmquist, Lance Cpl. Squire “Skip” Wells, Staff Sgt. David Wyatt, and Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith.
