TWU has 3 of 4 track honorees

Tennessee Wesleyan University had three of the four Appalachia­n Athletic Conference indoor track and field athletes of the week, with TWU senior Josh Parson from Rhea County three-peating as the men’s track honoree and junior teammate Isaiah

Alexis Lankford was the women’s track selection. Parson, also the NAIA national track athlete of the week, won the 60-meter dash in 6.75 seconds and the 200 in 21.81 at the Indianapol­is Collegiate Challenge, and he has the best 200 time and the second-best 60 time in the NAIA this season. Woodruff set a school record of 14.01 meters in winning the triple jump at Indianapol­is, and that distance qualified him for the national meet. Lankford was second in the women’s 60 and eighth in the 200 at Indianapol­is.

BASKETBALL

› The Bryan College and Tennessee Wesleyan women’s basketball teams stayed first and second in the AAC standings with road wins Wednesday, Bryan by 80-68 at Bluefield and TWU by 68-55 at Truett McConnell. Amber Levi and Deandra Luna had 18 and 16 points and six rebounds apiece for Bryan’s Lady Lions (16-5, 13-2), who are ranked 24th in the NAIA Division II poll this week. Tristan McClellan also scored 16 points while Shayla Ludy had 14 and matched Tonesha Allison with three steals.

Karli Combs scored 11 points. For Wesleyan (14-5, 13-3), fourth in “others receiving votes,” Hunter Simpson had 24 points, 10 rebounds and four steals while Madison

Walkup and Savannah Atkins scored 11 and 10 points and Kenzie Conn also got 10 rebounds.

› The Tennessee Wesleyan men completed a doublehead­er sweep at Cleveland, Ga., with a 73-69 defeat of Truett McConnell behind 18 points from Jordan Hall, who was 6-of-7 on 3-pointers, and 16 from Andre AppleWhite. Kenny Dean added 12 points and eight rebounds and Jalen Oliver scored 11 for the Bulldogs (8-13, 5-8). Christian Davis led the Bears (14-9, 7-7) with 21 points and seven assists; he hit five 3s.

› Bryan’s men, who had edged Bluefield by two points at home in late November, lost 67-64 in the AAC rematch Wednesday.

Bryce Cusick hit four 3-point baskets and scored a game-high 18 points for Bryan (129, 6-6), and Isaiah McClain and E.J. Bush scored 11 and 10.

TENNIS

› The AAC had six teams listed in the NAIA tennis preseason Top 25 polls released Tuesday, including the Tennessee Wesleyan men at No. 19 and TWU’s Lady Bulldogs at No. 24. Reinhardt and SCAD Atlanta were 16th and 25th in the men’s list; SCAD Atlanta and Brenau were 16th and 21st in the women’s poll.
