- STAFF REPORT

Cinderella isn’t the first female to learn how a great pair of shoes can change your life — but her story is probably the most well-known.

The beloved fairy tale set to music will be presented in five performances beginning Friday, Jan. 26, through Sunday, Jan. 28, when the national tour of “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” stops at the Tivoli Theatre.

The Tony Award-winning musical from the creators of “The Sound of Music” and “South Pacific” will delight audiences with its contemporary take on the classic tale. This extravagant production features an orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the magical moments that appeal to the young and young at heart — the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more.

The enchanting story is enhanced by the inclusion of three dozen songs such as the lovely waltz, “Ten Minutes Ago,” the uplifting “Impossible/It’s Possible” and the enchanting “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?”

Tatyana Lubov and Louis Griffin are cast as Ella and Topher — aka Cinderella and the Prince — in this production. Leslie Jackson plays Marie, the Fairy Godmother.

Three generations of families are familiar with this musical version of “Cinderella” through three television interpretations that have aired. The first was on CBS in March 1957, starring Julie Andrews as Cinderella. CBS aired another remake of the musical in February 1965 that introduced Lesley Ann Warren to viewers as Cinderella.

ABC broadcast the next television remake in November 1997 with Brandy as Cinderella, Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother, Bernadette Peters as the Stepmother and Whoopi Goldberg as the Queen.

The stage version of “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” debuted on Broadway in January 2013, featuring a new book by Douglas Carter Beane and direction by Mark Brokaw, which is the creative team for this production.

For tickets: 423-7575580.
