Boat catches fire at Island Cove Marina

-

A boat fire at Island Cove Marina in Harrison caused up to $80,000 in damage Friday, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

At 3:20 p.m., a 911 caller reported a boat fire at Island Cove Marina off of Highway 58. Firefighters arrived and confirmed a 25-foot Cruiser boat was on fire. According to the report, an Island Cove Marina resident had seen the boat on fire and immediately released it from the dock to prevent the fire spreading to other boats and the slip.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, the release states. No injuries were reported. Fire officials reported the owners of the boat had been running the boat Friday morning, but shortly after they left the marina, the owners received a call from Island Cove Marina saying their boat was on fire. Damage was listed at between $75,000 and $80,000.

A Hamilton County Hazmat team responded to the scene to contain a possible fuel spill from the charred boat. No further information was immediately available.
