Flutist Kristen Holritz featured with CSO
The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will feature principal flutist Kristen Holritz tonight, March 1, in a concert that is part of the Barnett & Company Masterworks Series. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St.
The performance will open with Grieg’s “Lyric Suite,” a moving piece inspired by Grieg’s native Norway, with scenic nature elements evident throughout the piece.
Holritz will perform Nielsen’s Flute Concerto.
“The Nielsen Flute Concerto is a special piece to me,” said Holritz. “I credit this piece for turning me into the performer that I am today. This concerto is virtuosic not only for the soloist but for the orchestra as well, with many quick exchanges between the solo flute and the other wind players, as well as with the timpani and even the bass trombone.”
The concert will conclude with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5. Featuring wind duos combined with brass, this piece in three movements is both majestic and exhilarating.
Join Music Director Kayoko Dan, whose primary instrument is flute, and Holritz at 6:45 p.m. for a pre-concert spotlight talk in the Tivoli Dance Studio, along with a flute petting zoo.
Following the concert, ticketholders are invited to Postlude, a reception in the lobby.
Tickets to the concert range from $21 to $85 with discounts for students and music educators. They can be purchased by calling 423-267-8583 or online at www.chattanoogasym phony.org.
