Mason seeks District 30 State House seat
Jonathan Mason is seeking the Republican nomination for the Tennessee House District 30 seat, according to a news release.
District 30 includes East Brainerd, East
Ridge, Apison, Missionary Ridge, Westview, East Lake, parts of Collegedale, parts of Brainerd, parts of Concord, parts of Ooltewah, and Ridgedale. Incumbent Rep. Marc Gravitt is not seeking re-election and instead is running for Hamilton County Register of Deeds.
Mason qualified on Friday. He faces Esther Helton in the Aug. 2 GOP primary. The lone Democratic candidate so far, Joda Thongnopnua, picked up papers Jan. 25 but had not qualified as of midday Friday. J. Michael Holloway, an independent, picked up papers Feb. 2 and also has not yet qualified, according to the Hamilton County Election Commission website.
Mason said he recently moved to East Brainerd from East Ridge. He works in the insurance sector and owns a salon with his wife, Rachael. He has served as the chairman of Hamilton County Young Republicans and as treasurer of East Ridge Revitalization, and was a member of several community advisory boards, the release states.
He is a graduate of Carson-Newman University and he and his wife, who are longtime members of Morris Hill Baptist Church, have two children.
“This is a big step for my family and I and a positive step for our campaign,” Mason said in the release.
“My entire life I have been a conservative, fighting on the front lines for family values, less government, and more liberty in Tennessee. It matters who governs, and I have worked hard to ensure we are represented by conservative leadership at our local, state, and federal levels.
“My conservative record reflects the values of Republican voters in District 30. As the only candidate that voted against Obama-era policies that trampled our 2nd Amendment rights, skyrocketed health insurance premiums, and persecuted our Christian beliefs and morals, I will continue standing for conservative principles. I am looking forward to shaking the hand of every Republican in the 30th District and being your biggest advocate in Nashville while serving you.”
