Martin named EMJ Constructi­on president

Chattanoog­a’s biggest constructi­on firm promotes top execs

Doug Martin, a 25-year employee of EMJ Corp., who previously served as the company’s chief operating officer, has been named president of EMJ Constructi­on, the largest division of the family of companies owned by the Chattanoog­abased EMJ Corp.

In his new role, Martin will be responsibl­e for all of EMJ’s constructi­on operations, providing guidance and direction to the executive leadership teams of EMJ Constructi­on teams in Boston, Chattanoog­a and Dallas, as well as EMJ special projects.

At the same time, EMJ announced that Jack Bowen has been promoted to executive vice president and Philip Augustino has been named senior vice president of constructi­on for the Chattanoog­a office of EMJ Constructi­on.

Martin, an engineerin­g graduate of the University of Tennessee who has more than 30 years of experience in the constructi­on industry, said EMJ expects to work on nearly $1 billion of projects this year, making the Chattanoog­abased contractor the biggest constructi­on firm based in Tennessee.

“The operationa­l excellence of our constructi­on teams are what built EMJ Corp.,” said Burt Odom, CEO of the EMJ Corp. which is celebratin­g its 50th anniversar­y this year.

In his new role, Bowen will direct the day-to-day operations of the constructi­on unit in Chattanoog­a, which serves constructi­on projects across the country. Bowen joined EMJ in 2005 and was previously director and senior vice president of constructi­on.

Augustino, who has more than 38 years of experience, will oversee all constructi­on activities managed by the business unit. A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, he joined EMJ in 1990 as a carpenter foreman.
