Silverdale Baptist Academy defeated Chattanooga Christian School 7-0 at CCS on Wednesday, improving to 2-0 in Division II-A East District 2.

Winning pitcher Maddie Tankersley pitched a three-hitter with no walks and 13 strikeouts.

“We just couldn’t hit the ball off their pitcher,” CCS coach Lisa Gray said. “She was moving the ball around, and we just didn’t adjust to the different speeds.”

Marlee Montgomery followed Savannah Turner’s one-out triple in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. The Lady Seahawks added a run in the second on four hits and another in the fourth with no hits. They topped things off with a four-run seventh.

The district these teams compete in is new this season and was made necessary by the TSSAA’s expansion of its private-school classification. CCS (5-3, 2-1) came to it from Division I’s District 7-AA, and SBA came from District 5-A.

The teams are scheduled to play again April 19 at Silverdale.

“Now we’ve seen them,” said Gray, who had not had either of her two previous CCS teams face the Lady Seahawks. “Now we know what we need to work on. We play them again in late April. I expect to see two totally different ballclubs. I think both are going to be improved.”

Skylar Sheridan went 3-for-4 and McCade Cooper went 2-for-3, each with an RBI and a run scored. Turner and Kaili Phillips were each 2-for4, with Phillips stealing a base and scoring a run.

Madison Vandergriff was 2-for-3 with a triple for the Lady Chargers. “It was a big win, a good win,” SBA assistant coach Tim Thompson said. “They have a good program. The girls worked hard.”
