Doris Truss
Doris Overton Truss, 89, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 26, 2018, after a brief stay at Hospice of Chattanooga.
Doris was born in Madison, Ga., to Mr. Hershel (Usher) Overton, and Mrs. Ruby B Overton. Officially, her birthday is listed as April 20, however her birthday is celebrated on March 20, 1929, the actual date of her birth.
Doris accepted Christ at an early age attending Tucker Baptist Church. At the time of her passing, she was an active member of New City Fellowship. Doris graduated from Howard High School, Class of 1947. Doris lived a full life, loved by family, and friends. She was adored by any who got to know her. For most of her life she was a homemaker, however she worked for a time at Miller Brothers of Chattanooga, and the Hamilton County Health Department. Doris loved to cook. She collected recipes, some dating back to the 1950s; which is evidenced by the hundreds of clippings she left to her adoring granddaughter, Marilyn Bonita, who shares her love and talent of cooking.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Daniel C Truss; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Usher Overton; daughter, Marilynn Gail (Honeybunch) Baldwin; grandson, James Robert Baldwin; brothers, Gerald Overton (toddler), Milton Overton; niece, Denise Overton; and nephew, Gregory Malone. Doris, also affectionately known as Dot, Aunt DaDa, and Grand-Ma.
Doris (GMaD) will be forever cherished by her five off-springs; sons, James (Linda) Baldwin Jr., Peter (Gail) Truss Sr., Ralph Truss, all of Chattanooga; daughters, Iris Baldwin Hamilton, of East Point, Ga., and Robin (Tyrone) Sampson, New Windsor Md.; sisters, Jeraldine Johnson, Chattanooga and Hazel (Maxie) Malone, of Chicago; brothers, Usher (Jean) Overton Jr., of San Diego; Alphonso (James-Etta) Overton and Irvin (Joyce) Overton, both of Chattanooga; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and church members.
Visitation is today from 6 to 7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at New City Fellowship 2424 E. 3rd Street with Pastor Kevin Smith as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
