‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’

A ’50s flashback about four girls with hopes as high as their hairdos

-

Fans of “The Taffetas” and “Forever Plaid” rejoice. Cumberland County Playhouse will open the off-Broadway smash hit, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” on Friday, March 30, for an eightweek run.

“After seeing this show in New York, I knew it would be a perfect choice for the Playhouse,” says Artistic Director Britt Hancock, who also directs the show. “I know the show will bring back wonderful memories for most of our audience and expose a whole new generation to these amazing songs.”

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” takes a cotton candy-colored musical trip down memory lane to the 1958 Springfield High School prom with the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their bouffant hair.

As we meet Betty Jean (Jess Griffin), Cindy Lou (Heather McCall), Missy (Hannah Hays) and Suzy (DeAnna Etchison), we experience their lives and loves from prom night to their 10-year reunion. Along the way, the audience is treated to the girls performing such classic ’50s and ’60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Mister Sandman,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “It’’s My Party” and over 20 more chart-topping hits of the era.

“The Marvelous Wonderettes” runs through May 26, and is rated G.

Tickets may be reserved by calling 931-484-5000 or visiting www.ccplayhouse.com.
