Mr. and Mrs. Jay Cate of Knoxville announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Ashton Cate, to Dr. Charles Joseph Allderdice, son of Charles and Eugenia Allderdice of Signal Mountain.

A May wedding is planned at Castleton Farms in Loudon, Tenn.

The bride-elect is the granddaugh­ter of Jack and Mary Cate of Knoxville, Frank Jarnagin of Morristown, Tenn., and the late Evelyn Jarnagin.

Ms. Cate received a bachelor’s degree in nursing, magna cum laude, from Lincoln University, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She is a certified critical-care registered nurse at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, N.C. She is of the Baptist faith.

The future bridegroom is the grandson of the late Charles and Chloe Creighton Allderdice and the late Joseph and Margaret Byington D’Ambrosio.

Dr. Allderdice is a graduate of McCallie School and received a bachelor’s degree in health sciences, summa cum laude with double honors, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, he served his residency at UT Medical Centers in Knoxville. He is board-certified in internal medicine and currently a Cardiology Fellow at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville. He has also been accepted as a Fellow in that school’s interventi­onal cardiology program.

Dr. Allderdice is a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
